EMD Variety Pack at BNSF Murray Yard |
Description: |
A good variety of power idling at BNSF Murray Yard on the morning of February 23th, featuring KCS SD70ACe 4009 dazzled in a special livery to thank the military veterans working on the KCS system in both the United States and Mexico. After hearing that KCS SD70ACe 4009 along with KCS SD70ACe 4176 had terminated at Murray Yard, we decided to catch them under the lights near the yard office after work a little after midnight. There also happened to be a nice set of classic BNSF EMD locomotives parked nearby with BNSF SD60M 1427 (built as BN SD60M 9250), BNSF SD60M 1426 (built as BN SD60M 9246), BNSF GP39-3 2597 (built as SLSF GP38AC 636) and BNSF GP39-3 2550 (built as ATSF GP30 1205). |

This time, an southbound BNSF freight train was idling nearby with BNSF C44-9W 723 second-out sporting the Santa Fe inspired Warbonnet livery. A nice black fourth gen Honda Accord also happened to be parked nearby in a perfect spot to pose with the two special locomotives. |

KCSM AC4400CW 4552, built as TFM AC4400CW 2652 in August 2000, leads eastbound BNSF coal train C-EBMMLM with BNSF SD70ACe-P4 8504 trailing second-out down the BNSF Saint Joseph Subdivision on a surprisingly-warm February afternoon. After catching it passing over the 1920-built Platte River Bridge from the CB&Q days near Farley, we decided to beat it to the trackside lake located at Horizons Industrial Park in Riverside. As a true testimate of time, KCSM 4552 still retains its original Transportación Ferroviaria Mexicana Battleship Grey paint from before the company was rebranded to Kansas City Southern de México in 2005. After Kansas City Southerns full takeover of the TFM, the equipment on TFMs roster was promptly rebranded to the new KCSM look, either receiving patches in their current "Grey Ghost" look or eventually given new Southern Belle paint. As of early 2025, KCSM 4552 remains as 1 of only 32 AC4400CWs still wearing their original TFM paint on the now CPKC roster. BNSF 8504 is also only 1 of 20 SD70ACe-P4s built for BNSF in 2014. |

Bartlett GP7R at Saint Joseph |
Description: |
A nice collection of classic EMD locomotives can be found working the grain elevators in southern Saint Joseph. BARX GP7R 4126, built as CRI&P GP7 1292 in December 1952, is currently owned and operated by Bartlett for switching around their Saint Joseph grain elevator. CRI&P 1292 was rebuilt into a GP7R at the Rock Island Silvis Shops in March 1976 and was renumbered to CRI&P 4126 while recieving the iconic blue and white "Bankruptcy Blue" livery. A short number of years later, CRI&P 4126 would change hands to the Chicago and North Western following the 1980 collapse of the Rock Island, becoming CNW 4126 and recieving yellow and green paint. After CNW 4126 was deadlined and retired with the rest of the former CRI&P GP7R fleet in the early 1990s, CNW 4126 was sold to Bartlett and recieved fresh yellow and black paint after getting its signature high hood chopped. |

Ag Processing GP10 at Saint Joseph |
Description: |
While the Bartletts operations were at a standstill this sleepy Sunday, their neighbors over at Ag Processing were busy at work switching their hoppers around the facility. AGPX GP10 8237, built as DT&I GP7 963 in April 1953, bustles around the property with a freindly crew of three employees riding along. DT&I 963 was rebuilt in the Illinois Central Gulf Paducah Shops in 1974 into one of the many GP10 rebuilds created in the Illinois Central's program between 1967 and 1978, finishing the final GP10 six years after the merger with Gulf, Mobile and Ohio. DT&I 963 rolled out of Paducah as ICG GP10 8237, and served the ICG until being sold to the Paducah and Louisville as PAL 8237 in the 1980s, where it would continue to run over home rails in Kentucky wearing a new IC-inspired livery until finding its way to Saint Joseph in the 2000s where it still continues to operate for the AGP today. |
