While the station makeover at Nadrazi Cercany is quite extensive, the only new trains serving Cercany in 2009 were "City Elephant" liveried Class 471 EMUs, and even they had occassionally worked the main since their introduction to the Ceske Drahy system. The traditional Class 451 and 452 "Pantograph" EMUs, in spite of many predictions that they would be eliminated, continued to cover most of the mainline local services, including the re-classified "S9" service, which was really just a continuation of the Prague-Benesov services that had been running for decades. The branchline services to Sazava, Dobris, and other such places continued to be covered mostly by Class 810 railbuses, and Class 714 diesels like this one pulling 010 Class four-wheel coaches (basically unpowered 810s). The Cercany-Prague services via Vrane nad Vltavou, incidentally, were still also worked by the very old Russian-style bi-level coaches pulled by Class 742 and 749 diesels. |

A diesel-electric mixed-traffic road switcher, the 735 Class were introduced in 1971 and built until 1979 by TS Martin. All were withdrawn by 2002, and this one looks a bit beat up, albeit preserved in the CD Muzeum as a stationary exhibit. The ditch lights are smashed, but surprisingly theres little graffiti on it. I dont know how many parts have been scrounged or stolen from inside it, though. |

Built by Skoda between 1959 and 1964, these DMUs are old, so they probably dont have too many years left in service. I looked the fleet up on Wikipedia, and only two were listed as still in service as of 2009, one of them in MOW service. Therefore, the remainder are heˆhtage units like this one. |

Ive never gotten a photo of a CD Class 741 diesel before, as theyre a bit rare. These two are actually operated by Viamont, which is a construction contractor and TOC, and as such are pulling a ballast train. Their TOC operations are mostly in regional services, using Class 810 railbuses, but I havent seen any of them yet. Getting back to these locomotives, the 741 Class are relatively new by Czech standards, having only been introduced since 2000 by CZ LOKO, a rebuilder who make them out of old Class 740 hood units originally built by CKD in the 1970s and 1980s. In addition to the lowered hood, both long and short, as you can see here, these locomotives have been regeared for 90Km/h service. Power is still 883kW (1184 horsepower), however. |
