Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original telephoto that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8668, #8663, #2200, #2201, #2203, and #2202. #8668 and #8663 are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8668 was built in February of 1958 while #8663 was built in January of 1958. #2200, #2201, #2203, and #2202 are all EF-22's built by GM-EMD in February of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. They're passing under four-track Signal Bridge #2417/6 with an iron ore train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and the steel mills of Pittsburgh. Note all of the PRR G-39 "Ore Jennies"! (#29 of 39) |
